The agricultural sector continues to maintain its strong export performance last year amid rising geopolitical risks and rising commodity prices globally. In the first quarter, it realized its highest export sales with 8 billion 374 million dollars. During this period, the agricultural sector continued to break records in exports.
The agricultural sector, which completed last year with a historically high level of exports, continued its successful chart with 8 billion 374 million dollars of foreign sales in the first quarter of this year. Thus, while the exports of the agricultural sector increased by 26.7 percent on an annual basis in the first quarter, it also reached the highest 1st quarter foreign sales in the history of the Republic. The aforementioned rise was due to the fact that exporters turned the negativities caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine, which have an important role in the food sector, into an advantage with bilateral agreements and market expansion.
With these developments, the share of the sector in Turkey’s exports continued to increase and rose to 13.9 percent.
The agricultural sector broke a record with 5 sectors in the first quarter of the year
When we look at the fields of activity under the agriculture sector, it is noteworthy that the export record was achieved in the first quarter of the year in 5 fields.
In this period, cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products 2 billion 833 million dollars, fruit and vegetable products 606 million 450 thousand dollars, dried fruits and products 403 million 251 thousand dollars, aquaculture and animal products 999 million 699 thousand dollars, furniture and paper and forest products achieved a record export of 1 billion 933 million 279 thousand dollars.
Looking at the export growth figures on an annual basis, 40.4 percent in cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products, 38 percent in fruit and vegetable products, 16.4 percent in dried fruits and products, 48.4 percent in aquaculture and animal products, furniture, paper and forestry. products rose by 27.8 percent.
In this period, the USA with 91 million 156 thousand dollars in fruit and vegetable products and Germany with 56 million 903 thousand dollars in dried fruits and products were the biggest buyers. The highest demand for the other 3 sub-sectors came from Iraq. In this context, the total exports of cereals, aquaculture and animal products, and furniture, paper and forestry products sectors to Iraq in the first quarter amounted to 993 million 38 thousand dollars.
In the sub-sectors of agriculture, the highest export is from companies from Istanbul.
Looking at the provinces, it was remarkable that companies from Istanbul made the most of the exports in the agricultural sub-sectors.
While companies from Istanbul stood out in cereals, aquaculture and animal products, furniture, paper and forest products, and fruit-vegetable products, companies from Izmir ranked high in dried fruits and products.
In the first quarter of the year, 789.6 million dollars of cereals, 164.4 million dollars of aquaculture and animal products, 795.3 million dollars of furniture, paper and forest products, and 156.7 million dollars of fruit and vegetable products were produced from Istanbul. Companies from Izmir exported 118.9 million dollars of dried fruits and products in the same period.
